At Westbury Farm we are committed to helping our horses feel good about doing their job, which for the most part is helping us have fun with them. This horse-friendly environment is created with the safety of the horses in mind. We try to cover all the bases when providing stalls and turn out areas for the horses to be horses, as safely as possible.
We look at life from the horses point of view. Being a herd and grazing animal they are happiest outside with other horses for company. Therefore, our horses spend very little time in stalls, in the barn or isolated. We give consideration to who gets along with whom, so that a dominant, alpha horse doesn't keep a very submissive horse from getting his or her fair share of hay or grain.
Training horses has become a passion for us. Whether it is training a young or green horse from the beginning or helping an older horse and its owner develop a greater understanding of what our body positions are communicating to the horse and what the horse is telling us by its reaction.
Our human and equine boarders become part of our farm family. They have embraced the philosophy of Chris Irwin's non-resistance training techniques. We have employed these methods with all of our horses over the last 2 - 3 years. The results are amazing.
We love to ride along the Greenway trail and enjoy the splendors of nature for each of the seasons. From warm, gentle breezes to falling snowflakes. The different birds and animals, the flowers, trees and shrubs and yes, even the insects. There is no better way to spend a couple of hours or so to relieve the stress of a busy week at work.
We are very excited to have begun a new service to the average horse enthusiast. I first met the Onions when I was searching for a stable to board my Quarter Horse Cross, Dusty. I was impressed immediately with the condition of the stable, which was very clean and orderly. It was obvious that the Horses were well cared for. The Onions were friendly and helpful from the minute we met, and when I moved my horse onto their farm. Their primary concern was always for the safety, comfort and care of not only my horse, but myself as a boarder as well. Unfortunately due to health reasons, I was forced to sell my beloved Dusty. The Onions offered to buy him, and I was overjoyed, as I knew he would always be loved, and very well cared for. As you can see, he is now one of their "good old boys", that assists their instructor in teaching others the pleasure of riding. I will forever be grateful to the Onions, for caring for him, and loving him. I want to thank them for their, kindness, compassion and friendship. If you are looking to buy a horse, or for a wonderful stable to board your horse at, you need look no further. You will find all you need, right here.

I first heard of the Onion's family farm back in Noverber of 2001. I was boarding my "equine buddy" at a not-so-good local facility. After he became very ill, due to his environment, my blacksmith (and good friend) highly recommended Westbury. His exact words were "Don't worry, they will take great care of him!" Well, he was right on the money! They were very accomodating, they understood that it was an emergency and he had to get out of "there" as soon as possible or he would not make it. They dropped their busy schedule, came over with their trailer on a week night and we got him out! That was five years ago, and I am still here today. They are very skilled at bringing horses back to health and keeping them healthy! They are very accomodating (and patient!) with the boarders and I have nothing but praise for their dedication, energy and overall care of all the horses. It realy is a nice clean, quiet place, I guess their stuck with me !!!
What can I say? I absolutely love this place!!! I got riding lessons as a Christmas present in 2004 and I can't seem to get enough of the place. Sally, Lynne, and Colin are all fantastic people who know a great deal about horses and spread that love and enthusiasm to everyone who walks in the door. They treat each horse like it is the most special animal around and the horses seem to appreciate it since they always need to stop and get some loving when any of the Onions are around! I look forward to coming out to the farm all week, every week. Not only is Sally a very good teacher, but I love to see what is going on with all of their great horses. The Onions are always very open to letting you watch and learn about what they are doing and are always willing to teach you more. I ride Reggie, who came to Westbury around the same time I did. As first, he was a little lean and tired easily, but they have treated him so well that he has really filled out, has a lot more pep, and has days when he acts like a two year old! I have learned so much at Westbury! I just can't say enough great things about this place. I keep trying to figure out ways to spend more time here. Once a week never seems like enough!

I received riding lessons for Christmas 2004. I was so excited to see the horses and finally ride one. Sally introduced me to Zeb and we've been together ever since. Sally is an awesome teacher. I've learned that it takes lots of work to care for the horses. The horses love the carrots I bring each week. When the weather is nice, I ride on the Greenway, not on the road with Sally right beside me. Now I ride Dusty. I can't wait for Sunday mornings! Zach Heil Age 10 Cottam, Ontario.

As a family, we started taking weekly riding lessons with Sally and loved it. So much so that we decided to buy a horse and train it with the help of the Onions. Today, China (our 4th child), is in the process of being trained and we are learning so much from the Onions. If you are looking at any of their services offered, rest assured they are all top notch, we have used them all. Sally is an experienced rider and easily imparts her knowledge to you. Lynne & Colin are very dedicated to their horses and the conditions they live in. They do whatever is necessary to make sure your horse is cared for and are responsible for helping to train China into a well mannered horse. Look no further, they are the best around.
Nancy began riding lessons over one year ago with Sally. Her expertise, patience and enthusiasm is first rate. We later purchased a Mustang colt named Bam-Bam who has become a great addition to our family. Lynn and Colin have provided me with much guidance, assistance and knowledge while trianing Bam-Bam. I believe that I have learned even more than he has. No matter how stressful my workday has been, every time I walk into the barn it all just goes away. Collin\'s many jokes and stories make you leave with a smile every time. Of course, all of the stories are true. We strongly recommend Westbury Farm with regards to any of the services provided by these wonderful people.
This is just a short note to thank you for the wonderful juob you have done training me and my horses. Your level of knowledge and professionalism far exceeded my expectations. I appreciate the great care and patience you have demonstrated with horse and rider, and I have no problem (and have) recommending your facility to anyone, anytime. Again, thank you. Colin, Lynne and Sally Onions are very good friends of mine. That being said, this testimonial states facts that would be just as true if they were not my friends. Their Westbury Farm location would be my first choice as a residence should I ever have the good fortune to be reincarnated as a horse. From the horse's point of view I would be assured that my daily care would be exceptional and all my basic needs would be met. In addition, the Onions have a firm conviction that a horse's emotional needs are as important as their physical ones. They see to it that each animal receives a great combination of human pampering and the opportunity for animal companionship. Being life long learners, each of the Westbury Farm team makes a constant effort to keep up with the latest training techniques, environmentally sound farm practices and the ultimate in horse care.
