FULL CARE BOARDING

We treat each horse like they were our own. We have set routines and rules that seem to work for our long-term boarders. It works very well for the safety and comfort of the horses. Currently we have the ability to care for a herd of 13 horses.

We offer daily turnout in a range of 5 grass pastures in the spring, summer and early fall and 5 "mud" pastures in the winter. Turnout companions are considered carefully so that we have smaller groups of compatible herd-mates, which decreases the likelihood of injuries, kicks and bruises. The horses have access to shelter and of course fresh water.

The pastures and stalls were built with safety in mind. Having weighed the pros and cons of the available choices, we went with a braided electric fencing. The horses have a healthy respect for it.

WESTERN RIDING LESSONS

Individual, private lessons on quiet, well trained horses to match the ability and personality of the rider. Lessons are either in a large indoor arena, a grassed outdoor enclosure and when the student is ready, a trail ride to break the monotony and put the skills learned to practical use. Our coach Sally is a certified level one Western riding coach. She earned her certification in 1993. The lessons are planned to suit the students rate of progress so that they get maximum enjoyment from their equine partner. Sally has a way of instilling confidence in her students, so that they feel in control while riding. Safety and fun are priorities.

DUSTY
A well trained Quarter Horse cross who given the right cue has a few neat tricks in his repertoire of skills; and he loves to pop over the cavaletties too. He is a good horse with get up and go. We pair him up with our intermediate and advanced students.
LADY
When Lady is not filling her role as Mom to one of her beautiful foals, she doubles as a lesson horse for beginner students.

TRAINING

We occasionally take horses for training, when time and scheduling allows. Our training methods feature Chris Irwin's non-resistance training; communication through body langauge, fostering a mutual, trusting and respectful relationship between human and equine partners. There is always an emphasis on human safety.

BREEDING

Our breeding program has been in the making for 12 years.

Scooter "Days Deception"

14.2hh, APHA registered Breeding Stock mare. She was foaled July 16, 1992 here in Harrow. She is the queen of our herd. She has been with us since March 1994 and on the trails since 1995. She's a "been there, done that" kind of girl who is sensible and loves to trail ride. She has a great chest and good confirmation that she passes it on to her foals.

LAREYDO "WESTBURY STAR DAYZA"

A 15hh registered APHA mare. She is a flashy chestnut Tobiano with a "come look at me" attitude. She was foaled July 3, 1999 right here at Westbury farm. Rey is the first foal out of Scooter who inherited her mother's great body and curiosity. Broke to ride at three and came along nicely when we interrupted her training to breed her. She passes along her pizzazz and great genes. At five she was a first time mom and what a great job she did.
